The Good Hand
Michael Patrick F. Smith is a writer and musician. His book, The Good Hand (A Memoir of Work, Brotherhood, and Transformation in an American Boomtown) was released in 2021 by Viking Press. The audiobook version of The Good Hand is narrated by Smith and contains seven songs he wrote and recorded at The Lexington Recording Company, featuring Susan Alcorn, J. Tom Hnatow, Blakely Burger, and Linda Jean Stokely, among others. This collection of songs was later released as the Dakota album. He has a forthcoming album titled Home from the War. As a journalist, Smith’s work has appeared in Washington Post Magazine, The Guardian, and The New York Times. He splits his time between Brooklyn, NY and Lexington, KY. www.thegoodhand.org
