DeBraun Thomas

With family roots in the commonwealth, DeBraun Thomas moved from the San Francisco Bay Area to Lexington to study journalism at the University of Kentucky. In the past decade, he has broadened from local music advocate to formidable musician and community activist.

Thomas has played guitar with multiple local bands, including Relic Delic, Soul Funkin Dangerous, Kali Kreek Dub Collective, and A Tribe Called Lex. He describes his original music as Rock N Soul and has released one solo album, All My Colors Are Blind.

After years of student involvement at radio station WRFL, Thomas worked for NPR affiliate WUKY, where his roles included producing the weekly shows Local Music Monday and the Crunkadelic Funk Show. In 2016, Thomas co-founded Take Back Cheapside, a coalition that successfully advocated for the relocation of Confederate statues from the historical site of a pre-Civil War slave market. While continuing to pursue his musical career, Thomas also works for the grassroots organization Kentuckians for the Commonwealth.
